David Brocato | Play Some Skynyrd, Trouble No More & Motel California
Derrick and Jeff chat with Memphis singer David Brocato about his work in multiple tribute bands: Play Some Skynyrd, Motel California (Eagles), and Trouble No More (Allman Brothers). They discuss the post-pandemic surge in tribute bands, the difference between honoring music versus lookalike gimmicks, and the work required to learn large catalogs—especially vocal harmonies in the Eagles tribute. David shares his musical beginnings (learning to sing and play guitar in high school), early gigs at Newby’s around 2009–2010, and influences ranging from Metallica to blues. He explains joining Trouble No More after initially declining due to being too busy, and recounts recreating an Allman Brothers set at the Overton Park Shell. They also talk about adding La-Shon Robinson and Melanie Pierce as Skynyrd backup singers and the impact on the band’s sound.
